Arlington is home. The yard is on Commerce Street, which means the trailer is loaded and moving before most crews have crossed a bridge, and it is the one part of the city where we can usually get a measure booked the next morning.
The housing stock here is largely 1950s and 60s brick ranch, and the fencing that came with it was chain link. A lot of what we do in Arlington is replacing sixty-year-old galvanised with either a modern black vinyl-coated mesh — which costs little more and disappears against planting — or a full switch to six-foot timber for privacy the original never gave anyone.
The other Arlington constant is the trees. Mature water oaks and laurel oaks put out shallow lateral roots, and an auger meets them at exactly post depth. We hand-dig around anything structural rather than cutting through it, which is slower and is the reason a root-heavy line is flagged on the estimate rather than discovered on install day.
Shallow oak roots
Water and laurel oaks root laterally at almost exactly the depth an auger wants to be. We hand-dig around anything structural and flag a root-heavy line on the estimate.
