Nobody picks chain link for looks. People pick it because it will enclose a two-acre yard, a dog run or a commercial lot for roughly half what timber costs, and because done properly it will outlast a cheap wood fence by a decade. It is also the fence with the best odds in a hurricane, for the simple reason that wind goes through it.
The quality line here is the framing. Residential thin-wall tubing from the big-box aisle bends when a dog leans on it and kinks permanently. We use schedule-40 posts with a top rail and proper tension bands, brace bands and truss rods at the terminals — the parts nobody sees and every failure traces back to.
If the fence is going anywhere near the water, specify black vinyl-coated mesh. Galvanised will show orange at the cut ends within a few seasons of salt air, and beyond that, black mesh visually recedes against planting in a way that bare galvanised never does.

Questions we get on this one
Will chain link keep my dog in?
For most dogs, yes, with a bottom tension wire so the mesh cannot be pushed out at the base. Diggers need the mesh buried or a concrete mow strip; climbers need height plus an inward extension arm. Tell us the dog and we will spec for that dog.
How much cheaper is it than wood?
Broadly half, and the gap widens on long runs because chain link prices down with distance where timber does not. On a big yard the difference is frequently several thousand dollars.
Can I add privacy later?
Yes. Slats thread through the mesh at any point in the fence's life, and they retrofit to an existing fence in an afternoon. You keep most of the wind performance, which a solid panel would give up entirely.
