San Marco sits on the river, and the river decides the specification. Anywhere within a few blocks of the St Johns — Miramar, the Boulevard, the streets behind the Square — plain electro-galvanised fasteners start bleeding rust down the boards inside two seasons, and once that stain is in the timber it does not come out.
Everything we hang here is hot-dip galvanised or stainless as standard, and we do not charge a coastal premium for it. On the ornamental side we specify powder-coated aluminium rather than wrought or steel, for the simple reason that aluminium has no rust to give.
The lots themselves are pre-war, which means mature planting, established grade changes toward the water and frequent low walls or kerbs the fence has to meet. Racked aluminium follows those falls cleanly; a stepped timber run rarely looks right on them, and we will say so at the measure.
Salt-air corrosion
Hot-dip galvanised or stainless throughout, and aluminium in place of steel on ornamental work. Rust streaks down a new fence are permanent and entirely avoidable.
